Nottingham Area Guide: The Park
Posted by Phil Ashford
The prestigious and beautiful Park Estate has long been Nottingham’s premier residential location. Just a 5-minute walk from the city centre, yet retaining a feeling of peace and tranquillity thanks to its lovely gardens and residents only access. A mix of architecture and history elevate this area above most others.
Shops: The thriving city centre provides all the shops a Park resident would need. Derby road benefits from plenty of independent shops and hairdressers. Sainsburys on Castle Marina is the closest supermarket and there are several smaller stores located along Derby road such as Tesco Express and Park Stores. At the Lenton end of the Park there is also a Sainsburys local and Tesco Express.
Eating Out: Living in close proximity to the city centre, residents of The Park benefit from all the restaurants and bars Nottingham has to offer. There are some lovely cafes and delis located close by on Derby road. Comfort favourites include Tough Mary’s and Park Stores who offer fresh baked goods daily. The Nottingham Playhouse also has a fantastic bar with a ping pong table in the courtyard!
Schools: On the city side of The Park, the closest primary school is St Josephs and to the Lenton end there is Dunkirk Primary School, Abbey Campus. Both schools were rated good in their most recent Ofsted inspections. Edna G Olds Academy in Lenton is also close by and was recently rated Outstanding.

Transport Links: Regular buses run along Derby road out to lots of areas of the city. Just a short walk into the city provides access to the tram network and all Nottingham bus routes. The train station is less than a 10-minute walk from the Castle end of The Park.
Parks and Recreation: The Park has an array of beautiful spaces that are kept pristine as a private estate - at the centre is the bowls, tennis and squash club.
Community Events: If you’re not a sports fan, don’t worry, there’s plenty on offer for you too! Thanks to the variety of independent businesses there are plenty of interesting events on offer- concerts, antique fairs, a gin festival and food festivals, you’re sure to find something to whet your appetite. The event of the year is Riverside festival. Held in the middle of summer on Victoria Embankment, three days of live music, food and events sees thousands flock to the banks of the river to enjoy (free!) family fun.
Park Tunnel: Not to be missed... see if you can find it!
